The Monegasque authorities were deeply saddened to hear about the fatal accident that occurred at approximately 12.45 p.m. on Monday 12th September at the Marcoule plant, not far from Avignon. Their thoughts go first and foremost to the victims of the accident and they would like to express their compassion to the families who have been so deeply affected by this tragedy.
The Government of Monaco closely monitored the activation of the Nuclear Safety Agency’s (A.S.N.) national crisis unit, as well as information communicated by this authority.
The information provided by the French Nuclear Safety Agency in its communiqué n° 2 is particularly reassuring, as the A.S.N. reports that:
This accident has no radiological impact nor requires protective action vis-à-vis the population.
The ASN has suspended emergency operations; it is still in contact with the prefecture of the Gard and the operator.
Consequently, the Government of Monaco is asking citizens to continue their activities as normal. |
