The focus for October is music and the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing 3 concerts in tribute to Serge Diaghilev as part of the centenary celebrations of the Ballets Russes.

Tribute to Diaghilev le Tricorne

Manuel de Falla, El sombrero de tres picos (Le Tricorne)

In 1919, the music from Falla’s “Tricorne” accompanied the first production of a ballet by

Massine, with décor by Picasso.

Manuel de Falla, La Vida breve : dance

In 1919, mazurkas by Chopin accompanied the first production of the ballet “Les Sylphides” with choreography by Fokine and décor by Benois. As for Weber’s "Invitation à la valse”, it provided the music to the ballet “Le Spectre de la Rose”, again by Fokine in 1911, with décor and costumes by Bakst. Admission: 8€

On 18
th October, there will be a performance of “Apollon Musgète” which Stravinsky composed during a stay in Nice and which was created in 1928 in a choreography by Balanchine with Serge Lifar as the main dancer.
