Prince Pierre Foundation– for October 2009 Issue

1/ What are the objectives of the Prince Pierre Foundation?

The Prince Pierre Foundation’s objectives are to support and promote original works of contemporary literature, music and visual art.

Among the foundation’s various projects, it organises every year:

- A number of arts prizes: the award for Literature, the bursary “la Bourse de la Découverte”, the Children’s Choice, the award for Musical Composition and the International Prize for Contemporary Art.
- An exhibition of works by the artists nominated for the International Prize of Contemporary Art.
- Different conferences
- Lectures and events for the general public (as part of the Marathon de lecture programme at the Louis Notari Library) and school children (Coup de Cœur des Lycéens).

2/ How will the forthcoming awards ceremony proceed?

The Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra and the conductor Alexander Briger will open the ceremony with a performance of Seven by Peter Eötvös, the winner of the 2008 award for Musical Composition.

During the ceremony itself, the actor Robin Renucci will read extracts from the works nominated for the Literature prizes.

3/ What cultural events will the foundation be hosting?

I must mention the exhibition for the XLIIIè International prize for Contemporary Art, exhibiting the work of the 2009 winner, Su-Mei Tse. The show will be held at the Salle du quai Antoine Ier from the 14th October to the 15th November.

Also, the Théâtre des Variétés (Variety Theatre) will stage on the 16th and 17th October two performances of Music-Hall, a play written by Lambert Wilson and starring Fanny Ardant.
