The Principality allocates 100,000 € to PAKISTAN
Pakistan has recently suffered the deadliest floods in its history. From the 20 million people affected, many are still left to fend for themselves. Faced with this humanitarian disaster, the Principality of Monaco has just released 100,000 € within the context of its Emergency Humanitarian Aid. Funds will very shortly be donated to the World Health Organisation.
At the end of July, beginning of August 2010, Pakistan was hit by unprecedented rainfall: 20 million people affected, 70% of the country hit, the cotton industry virtually destroyed, a drop in the GDP of at least 3%.
For international observers, this is the worst disaster the country has ever experienced.
Confronted with this crisis situation, on 11th August 2010, the UN launched an appeal for 459 million American dollars to cover the needs of the flood victims for 90 days.
Within the framework of its Emergency Humanitarian Aid, the Principality of Monaco was eager to respond to this appeal as quickly as possible. 100,000 € will very shortly be donated to the World Health Organisation’s emergency health action department.
By making this donation, Monaco will support the overall efforts in the emergency health sector (fight against epidemics, inoculation, day-to-day care...).
It should be pointed out that today from the 20 million people affected, a large number still are without shelter or food, at the mercy of epidemic diarrhoea, cholera and typhoid.
For 2010, this is the Principality of Monaco’s 5th intervention within the scope of its Emergency Humanitarian Aid after Haiti, Mongolia, Chile and the Var, representing a total funding of 493,000 €.
