Three questions for Claire Breuvart-Kreidel, President of the International Cinema and Literature Forum

02-03-2009-

What is the purpose of the International Cinema and Literature Forum?
The Forum was born of a love story between Hans-Stephan Kreidel and myself. Passionate for literature and cinema, we wanted to create an international meeting place between these two arts in Monaco. We wanted to facilitate contact between writers and directors on the one hand and editors, agents and producers of cinema and television on the other. The purpose of the forum is to be an ideas bank for producers and to allow the birth of new films adapted from works of literature and comic strips. The first work born from these meetings was released 19th January, the adaptation of Guillaume Musso’s ‘Et Après’, winner of the Best Adaptable Novel Prize at Forum 2004. About ten films resulting from meetings organised within the Forum are currently in production.

How is the event currently developing?
The event is developing a great deal. On the professional side, this year we have created co-production meetings to help film and television producers to finance their projects and to meet film committees from different countries. International participation is increasing, with Egypt, Marocco, Syria and Israel, amongst others, coming to participate in a debate on the theme: ‘Union for the Mediterranean, write, co-produce, shoot‘.

The forum is also developing on a public level. This year’s event takes place entirely at the Auditorium Rainier II and is totally free to the public, invitations can be collected from either the toursit office or FNAC. More young people are participating thanks to the Pitches competition, organised with the local education authority. The pupils will summarise the novel ‘Les Jours Fragiles‘ for a cinema adapatation. The best ones will be corrected during a workshop in the presence of the book’s author Philippe Besson and the director Fraçois Dupryron who is going to adapt it.

What is on the programme for this 8th edition?
As every year, we are going to have round table discussions with authors, directors and scriptwriters; cartoon and video game meetings for the young public; novel readings from actors; a cinema class from a great director; pitches workshops; every night will include the Union for the Mediterranean debate and projections. It’s a unique occasion for the public to meet stars and writers, we expect amongst others Annie Duperey, Amos Gitaï and the Italian actress Laua Morante who will be Forum 2009‘s President of Honour.
