11-03-2011-
36th International Circus Festival of Monte Carlo
Press Release n°2
From 19th January to 5th February 2012
2012 will definitely be a great year for the circus in the Principality... the International Circus Festival, which will take place from 19th to 29th January 2012 will be followed by a new event: New Generation, on 4th and 5th February. Monaco will therefore be the international capital of the Circus for over two weeks!
In 1974, Prince Rainier III created the Festival, not only because he wanted to help this form of art facing difficulty, but also because he wanted to support the families who worked with passion and determination
to keep the circus arts alive.
The Organising Committee, presided over by H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie, in keeping with the spirit of its Founder, has therefore decided to create a new event in order to support and encourage the young
circus artists of today and ensure that the circus will continue to thrive in the future.
H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie is assisted in the preparatory work for New Generation by Pauline, her eldest daughter, who will also preside over the Jury.
New Generation will be the world’s only Festival for young artists that takes place in a real circus ring…which will make it possible to present all circus acts, including animal acts.
New Generation will feature artists from 11 countries, including China, Russia and Australia, but also the Principality of Monaco and its regions, with an acro-gymnastic number by Femina Sports and the participation of pupils from the Piste d’Azur in the Alpes Maritimes.
During the Festival, the public will also be able to enjoy the Open Air Show on Saturday 21st January in Port Hercule, the shop window competition, two exhibitions at the Princess Grace Theatre (30 tapestries by Jacques Cinquin and 4 models by Christian Pierrot) and an exhibition of animal paintings and circus costumes at the Oceanographic Museum.
