Franco-Monegasque Cooperation Committee of 25th June 2009: close-knit and reinforced cooperation

26-06-2009-

The annual Franco-Monegasque cooperation committee, presided over for Monaco by H.E. Mr Jean-Paul Proust, Minister of State, and for France by Mr Pierre Sellal, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, met for its 4th session today at the Ministry of State in Monaco.

The two Heads of Delegation spoke of the excellent and close-knit relations, in a modernised setting, between both countries since the signing of the friendship treaty in 2002.

Cooperation continues to develop both at local (c.f. implementation of a local commission the last meeting of which was held on 6th February 2009 at the Palais Préfectoral in Nice) and inter-governmental levels.

Both delegations are very pleased about the existence of an extremely dynamic economic area for the benefit of the Principality of Monaco and the PACA region.

Furthermore, both Parties are delighted that the modernisation triptych of 8th November 2005 has entered into force this year concerning cooperation agreements on administrative and judicial matters and investor protection.

The main topics discussed during the meeting were focused on:
    - economic issues: monitoring of the joint €uro committee; exchange of views on joint efforts for greater financial transparency on an international level and preparation for the next sessions,

    - health issues: setting up a task force for implementing a framework cooperation agreement for health and obtaining authorisation for a blood transfusion centre in the Principality,

    - French community: minutes of task force meetings,

    - examining the conclusions of the local commission of 6th February 2009: waste treatment, social housing for the working population…

Both Parties also agreed to continue to reinforce their cooperation as far as multilateral organisations are concerned, in particular UNESCO.

On the sidelines of this meeting, H.E. Mrs Odile Remik Adim, the French Ambassador to Monaco and H.E. Mr Jean-Paul Proust, the Minister of State, signed a convention concerning the Principality’s electricity supply, thus continuing the long-standing agreements in force between the two states.
