The Department of Urban Planning (DAU) will be repairing the upper layer of the road surface in rue Grimaldi from Monday 25th to Thursday 28th October 2010. As Olivier Lavagna, Director of Urban Planning, points out: “rather than renovating areas of the road every six months due to deterioration of the roadbed, we have decided to carry out this work thoroughly, which always causes disturbance on this high-density traffic route”.
The preparatory work, which began around ten days ago, consists of repairing the lateral drainage channels and edges of the pavement and of upgrading certain technical openings used to access the networks underground. Consequently, a speed bump type structure has been created just after the Panorama building due to reshaping of the road. This will be removed once the work has been completed.
The work in rue Grimaldi will be carried out according to the following schedule:
Ø from midday on Monday 25th October to 6 a.m. on Tuesday 26th October: planing of the upper section (bus lane),
Ø from midday on Tuesday 26th October to 6 a.m. on Wednesday 27th October: planing of the lower section.
Ø during the nights of Wednesday 27th October and Thursday 28th October from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.: laying of asphalt surface
“We have chosen the school holiday period to carry out the work in order to limit the impact on traffic, even though some disturbance is unavoidable. Moreover, the night operations will provoke some noise disturbance which will be limited as much as possible” says Olivier Lavagna.
As the municipal traffic committee confirmed, once the road surface has been laid, the road markings on the upper section of rue Grimaldi will be modified. The bus lane will be removed and on the lower section, pay and display parking areas will enable the flow of traffic from the Auréglia roundabout to enter rue Grimaldi more easily.
To increase visibility and safety of the pedestrian crossing located before the roundabout, a coloured and gravelled strip of approximately six metres long will also be put down.
