Professor Denis Allemand, Scientific Director at the Scientific Centre, appointed to the Scientific Council of the C.N.R.S. Ecology and Environment Institute

The President of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (C.N.R.S.), Professor Alain Fuchs, has just appointed Denis Allemand, Scientific Director of the Monaco Scientific Centre, as a member of the Scientific Council of the C.N.R.S. Ecology and Environment Institute (I.N.E.E.).

C.N.R.S. research is conducted in six institutes covering all scientific, technological and societal spheres. Within these institutes, the mission of the I.N.E.E. is to develop and coordinate research in the fields of ecology and the environment including biodiversity and the human-environment relationship, fields for which the C.S.M. has gained an international reputation. The Scientific Councils of these institutes are made up of experts who advise the Institute Director with regard to preparing and implementing their scientific policy. In particular, they provide recommendations as to the pertinence of the Institute’s projects and scientific forecasting. The scientific councils are also consulted concerning the setting up / removal of research units and the appointment of admission boards for future researchers.

The C.S.M. now houses a C.N.R.S. European associated laboratory (L.E.A.), co-directed by Yvon Le Maho, a member of the French Academy of Science and a renowned researcher in polar biology, together with Denis Allemand. This L.E.A. named “Biodiversity and environments sensitive to climate change” closely links the research conducted on coral reefs with a new area of research on the polar environment.
