Roger Federer confirms his participation in the Monegasque Tournament
Thursday 9th April 2009. As Zeljko Franulovic, Director of the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters, sensed, the Swiss player currently ranked world n° 2 Roger Federer, has just accepted the wild card that the organisers of the Monegasque tournament had reserved until the last minute for him.
"Several months ago I announced that Roger had not planned to take part as he had modified his clay court preparation. But knowing his attachment to the Tournament, we never lost hope that he would nevertheless be there this year; we have been proven right and are very proud.” announced Zeljko Franulovic.
Once again this year, the world n° 2 will be competing against his eternal rival Rafael Nadal (n° 1) and the many other candidates for victory who may well stir things up, such as the Serb Novak Djokovic (n° 3), the finalist in Miami, Andy Murray (n° 4), winner of the American Masters 1000 and the Argentinean Juan Martin Del Potro (n° 7) who caused a sensation in Florida in the quarter finals when he eliminated the Spaniard Rafael Nadal.
So there are no longer eight but nine of the best players in the world who will be taking part in the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters 1000, which is being held from 11th to 19th April 2009. An exceptional line-up once again showing the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters as one of the elite world tournaments, the reputation of which confirms the importance of the Monegasque event amongst the players.
