A key event for cinema literary adaptation, the Cinema & Literature International Forum will be presenting its 9th edition on 12th and 13th March 2010. Organised by Hans-Stephan Kreidel and Claire Breuvart-Kreidel, President of the Forum, it will take place at the Sporting d’Hiver and the Grimaldi Forum.
A true meeting point for both these arts, the vocation of the Forum is to be a bank of ideas for producers and to enable new films to be produced based on literary works and comic strips.
This edition will place particular focus on comic strips with a tribute to the novelist and scenario writer, Jean Van Hamme, the creator of “XIII” and “Largo Winch”. As the President of Honour of this edition, he will act as referee for the duel "Spirou against Spirou”. A prize will be also awarded to the best adaptable comic strip.
Detective novels are also in the spotlight with three books in this category nominated for the best adaptable novel award. A round table, open to the public, on the theme “Le gang des Lyonnais, Mesrine: quand la fiction dépasse la réalité" will involve Abdel Raouf Datri (scriptwriter for "Un Prophète, Mesrine »), Jean-Christophe Grangé (writer, scriptwriter) and Police Superintendent Charles Pellegrini who worked on the "gang des Lyonnais" and the Mesrine affair.
Much awaited by secondary school students, the literary adaptation workshop will be led by Jean-Christophe Grangé based on his novel “The oath of Limbo”. The 7 best pitches, a summary making producers want to adapt the novel into a film, will receive awards. The aim of the competition, organised for the 4th year running, is to encourage youth to read through the cinema.
A special world première screening in 3D of the film "Dragons" directed by Chris Sanders, Den Deblois and based on the book "How to train your dragon" by Cressida Cowellest, will take place on 12th March.
A rich and varied 9th edition that will appeal to cinema addicts and professionals alike.
