It was with great sorrow that we heard the news of the tragic earthquake that hit Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world.
Not to mention those missing, this earthquake has caused the death of many people including the archbishop of Port-au-Prince, the most reverend Joseph Serge Miot. The disaster has also caused serious material damage. Many people have no shelter, no food and no means of looking after themselves.
Let us show our solidarity for these victims by praying for them and providing them with our support.
Through the Caritas network, the Church is already present among the Haitians in distress. We will make our contribution to Caritas Monaco, with our personal donations and with the collection that will be made in all churches and chapels on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th January 2010.
I am depending on you as this is a matter of urgency. May the Lord bless your acts of benevolence.
Monaco, 13th January 2010
† Bernard BARSI
Archbishop of Monaco
